Most things at Borderland are not paid for by the Borderland org. Almost everything that you experience at the Borderland has been paid for and brought by members as a gift to the community. But there are cases when you can buy things and get them reimbursed by the Borderland org, paid for by the membership fees of your fellow Borderlings.
Generally, these expenses fall into three categories:
Costs of creating the dreams that get funded on the Dreams platform. Infrastructure costs for the event, like fire safety equipment and toilets. Overhead costs for the orgs between events, like server costs or legal services. Dream grant expenses

The general principle is that anyone should be able to make any decision regarding The Borderland. However, before you make a decision, you must ask advice from those who will be impacted by that decision, and those who are experts on that subject. Assuming that you follow this process, and honestly try to listen to the advice of others, that advice is yours to evaluate and the decision yours to make.
To make sure we can afford what we need, someone usually makes a rough budget early in the year. Setting a rough budget is done with an advice process, and a good example is the . If you spend money for the Borderland, you need to reference the advice process where it was decided to spend that money. An example of this might be if you pay for storage of infrastructure between events. In this case, you could link to the budget for 2023 as it includes money for that purpose.
In other cases, you might need a little more documentation. For example, the 2023 budget has a 300.000 kr “Unforeseen costs” budget.
