Introduction

This report outlines the concept of a "Future Book" – a dynamic, technology-driven evolution of traditional textbooks. The goal is to create a more engaging and effective learning experience for both students and teachers, leveraging Cambridge Press's expertise and resources.

What is a Future Book?

A Future Book is an advanced digital educational platform that transcends the limitations of static text and images. It harnesses cutting-edge technologies to create an adaptive, responsive learning environment.
Key features of a Future Book may include:
Multi-modal interaction capabilities (speech, text, images)
Deep, connected, and timely information presentation
A toolkit of focused educational tools
Interactive learning notebooks
Personalised learning experiences for students
Continuous professional development opportunities for teachers
This report aims to provide a brief overview of a number of ideas that may inform the “Book of the Future”. In addition, the examples below (shown throughout report) demonstrate potential capabilities for certain purposes:
- An example chat interface to a Large Language Model that can format its output to meet the needs of a Student or Teacher. This could have knowledge of all Cambridge Press resources and be able to cite them or act as a method of dynamic navigation.
- An example of a Book being used on an iPAD by a teacher in class
- A further developed example in code.
- An example of a AI Notebook that assists a Teacher in preparation for teaching and / or CPD and acts as reference and generation of materials.
