Workspace Functionality

Examples not content

This workspace part of this document supports an asynchronous workshop, but its emphasis is on exploring and leveraging coda functionality. Thus, only sufficient content is included, relating to the Business Model Canvas process, to provide sensible working examples.
The web site is the ultimate source for supporting information on the Canvas process, while the has the original content (and much more) used in teh sample tables.

Explanations, discussions and demonstrations

For a broad discussion of a single business model or for a comparison of two or more business models, this is the appropriate tool.
Using the original material, perhaps enhanced and extended by the moderator’s own insights and opinions, the GAFAM business models can be illustrated on a canvas-like board. The building blocks can be explored individually or in groups, in line with the moderator’s - or indeed, your own - narrative and to support the story-telling flow.

Interaction, enhancement and additions

Once the participants have understood the principles of the business model generation tools and processes, the stage is right for further creativity. The second workspace supports detailed discussion of each of the individual Building Blocks within the canvas:
Customer Segments
Value Propositions
Channels
Customer Relationships
Revenue Streams
Key Resources
Key Activities
Key Partnerships
Cost Structure
Comments can be added to the chosen display, in its entirety or relating to individual items. these comments are added to the conversation flow on the Participant’s Dashboard and so are available to those colleagues working remotely or with a time-offset.
Additional items can be added within the building blocks and these are versioned as Suggested additions, to facilitate discussion and comparison with the original content. Items so added, can be up-voted, using standard coda functionality to tally votes, record voters’ names and document comments. Even while working asynchronously, we can follow other participants contributions, votes and comments.
Depending on the rules in play in a specific workshop, the highest voted additions can be formally adopted and automatically assigned the status Workshop addition, but the exact process is for teh moderator to decide.
