FAQ
Do I, as the parent, need to do anything in order for the costume to be completed?
You are only required to fill out the hire forms and try to make it to the classes they will be fitted, otherwise nope! We take care of absolutely everything else!
What does my costume hire fee cover?
Your costume fee covers our hours that we spend designing the costumes, buying materials, cutting and sewing of fabrics. Our hours spent fitting the girls in their class times, setting up costumes at the theatre. We also stay for the entire rehearsal and concert to ensure all costumes are worn correctly and if there are any wardrobe malfunctions we can take care of it! We also clean all the costumes and pack them away afterwards so you don’t have to be responsible for them not getting cleaned correctly or going missing, or taking up precious cupboard space and not be seen again.
Why is the fee non-refundable?
Once we have reach the due date for costumes that means we are buying all the accessories and materials we need for your child’s costume. We obviously can’t return cut materials etc and we also source a fair bit online to help keep costs down so they are ordered as soon as we can which we also can’t return.
Why do I need to pay an extra hire fee when I move classes when I’ve already paid for one costume?
If you’ve moved to a different class after the fee due date, this means we then need to go and buy everything for your new costume separate from the students who were in the class originally. Any items weve ordered for you we got to divide shipping between the class originally, but for one item to be shipped alone costs the same amount.
Why cant you give us the materials and we put it together and get it cheaper?
Not everyone has the time, skills or tools to put together a dance costume. In fact, most parents do not, especially considering the concert is close to the christmas period when everyone is a little busier. Some parents may end up paying more, as they would need to take their material to a seamstress and have them sew a one off item. We also run the risk of some dancers costumes looking better than others, and we like them all the costumes to look equal.
Why cant we keep the costumes?
It is only GTW that hires these costumes. We try to re-use where we can to keep the costs down. Then when we need to create new items, the hire fee can cover a larger portion of the material and labour needed. Some ballet tutus can be $200 brand new, and no one can really justify paying that for one concert. So if we can reuse them, over a long period of time our costs will be covered and the students got to wear this year a gorgeous costume at an affordable price.
Can I pay extra to keep the costume?
We keep our costumes as a set, and need the same conditions to apply to everyone. The older kids don’t play dress ups anymore, so they are not interested in keeping their costumes. And for the kids who might play in it at home, they are growing so fast they will not fit it long enough to re-wear in a show again.
Who are you?
Both of us began teaching for GTW in 2008, and have continued teaching different classes on and off throughout the years around our growing family commitments. We both have children currently attending classes, and still have an active role as teachers at the studio. One of us may have even been a cover teacher for your class this year. We took over costumes in 2014 but kept the process exactly the same.
