Class Norms

We will work together to create some class norms during the first lecture of the semester. Until then, please read my expectations below:
Everyone deserves respect. This includes me, but also your colleagues and yourself. I will not tolerate rude or disrespectful behavior to anyone in my classroom because it is not hospitable to learn under those conditions. I expect you to use correct names/pronouns, show up on time or notify me that you will be running late via email, and listen to your classmates when they participate in class discussion.
This is a safe place. If there is something going on in your life that you think I should know about or you need help with, please do not hesitate to come to me. I want to be a resource to you in any way I can, even if it’s just to provide a listening ear in difficult times. This goes for any time you spend in my class, but also via email or during office hours.
No tech distractions. I know three hours is a long time, and we will be taking regular breaks to refresh our brains and take care of ourselves. Please make sure that while we are actively engaged in course activities, you are not checking your phones or using your laptop to do other work.
