Following the reversal of Roe vs. Wade, the evolving legal landscape of reproductive health presents substantial challenges, especially impacting Black women who face significant disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. These legal shifts impact not only abortion care but also extend to other aspects of reproductive health, including informed consent in labor management, drug testing, custody disputes, and interactions with child protective services. Additionally, they intensify concerns around the criminalization of pregnancy, underscoring the critical need for enhanced advocacy and support for patients.

In this rapidly changing legal environment, birth workers serve as essential advocates for their patients, striving to provide comprehensive care amid these complexities. Yet, the challenges of staying current with legal developments, effectively disseminating patient information, and the absence of immediate crisis support mechanisms significantly challenge their capacity to offer effective support.

In this presentation, Dr. Yamicia Connor, a distinguished expert in women’s health, science, and innovation with a specialization in enhancing maternal health outcomes for Black women, will provide birth workers with essential insights and tools.
