Grades and assignments

Weekly reflections: 15%
Students will respond to weekly questions about readings and to classmates’ responses on a weekly basis to reflect about issues and dynamics facing women’s sports.
Homework quizzes: 5%
There will be short, informal quizzes for each group of readings and occasional writing to post in Slack. An honest effort on these assignments gets full marks; I’m less concerned about you getting the answers right than seeing what you’re getting out of the reading so I can build elements into the class discussion.
Class participation: 20%
Class discussions will incorporate issues raised in the weekly reflections and other topics, both within the class and featuring guest speakers. Students also will prepare questions for guest speakers in advance.
Sports and media analysis 30%
Students will write two short analyses (2,000 words, ±250) about particular topics facing women, sports, and media. These will be due in the and sections.
"EJ’s Playbook” episode 30%
In teams of two, students will interview a female professional in sports media, record the interview, and produce a transcript reflecting on the pro’s career and advice they have for students embarking on careers in sports and media. Students will lead discussions about their interviews during the final two class sessions.
NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, all assignments are due at 11:59pm on the date listed, including weekly reflections.
