What does "amen" mean?

The word "amen" is rooted in a Hebrew word that means "truth". In a Christian worship service the word has two effects. First, we say "amen" to register our agreement with what has just been said or sung. Also, by acknowledging the truth of what is said, we are expressing our willingness to be bound and steadied by the truth of God. A good place to put this into practice is after the pastoral prayer. If you are in agreement with what is prayed, we encourage you to vocalize that fact with a sincere "amen!"
