The Christ

Since the words "Jesus" and "Christ" appear together so often it's common to assume that's his first and last name. But Christ is actually a title, not a name. It means "anointed one". In Old Testament Hebrew, the Anointed One is called "Mashiach" (Messiah in English). In the New Testament, Masiach was translated into Greek as "Christos" (Christ in English). When Jesus is called the Christ, it means that he is the promised Anointed One who would come to serve as Prophet, Priest and King. (Matt. 16:15)
