The lyrics for "Arise, My Soul, Arise" were written by Charles Wesley in 1742 so it uses some words that might be unfamiliar to us today. A line from the first verse says, "before the throne my surety stands". The KJV translation of Hebrews 7:22 says, "By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament". So the word here means guarantee or down payment. In context of both Hebrews and the song, the idea being expressed is that the superiority of Jesus our high priest guarantees salvation for all who draw near to God through Him.
