Apostles' Creed

This creed was first used in Rome as early as the second century as a public confession that would be professed before Christian baptism. It is called the Apostles' Creed because its content is derived from the writings of the apostles in the New Testament. The word "catholic" means "universal", and does not refer to the Roman Catholic church but to the whole company of God's redeemed people through all time and places. As we read this creed together, remember that this has been professed by Christians in countless places and across centuries.
