ETH layer 2 Community
Polygon(Previously Matic Network)
About
History Before Re-branding
Before it was called Polygon, the Project was called Matic (Network)
Matic was started in 2017 with 3 founders
Matic Token was distributed through the Binance Launchpad IEO
April 2019
$5.6 million
Matic Network main net went live in Mid 2020
Increasing gas fees on Ethereum lead to more attention
Re-branded to Polygon in the beginning of 2021
Aims at creating an ecosystem that makes it easy to connect different scaling solutions (more generalized)
Secured Chains (Security as a Service)
Reliy on the security of the main layer(Ethereum)
Via Fraud pools(Plasma Chains → Layer 2 Scaling)
Rely on professional validators
those validators can be shared by multiple projects
Preferred by startups and security focused projects
Standalone PoS Chain → Ethereum side chain
Own security model → having a separate consensus
Requires high number of reliable validators
Suitable for established projects with strong communities
Fully sovereign
Want to provide a framework that makes it easy for new projects to easily build their own highly customization scaling solutions
Matic Plasma Chains
Ethereum Layer 2 predicate based plasma implementation
Plasma in essence is a framework for building scalable dapps
Offloading transactions from the main chain into child chains
fast and cheep transactions
Drawbacks:
Long waiting period for users who want to withdraw their funds from layer two to one
Can not be used to scale general purpose smart contracts
Matic POS Chain
Permission-less side chain
Runs in parallel to the Ethereum chain
Secured by PoS consensus mechanism with its own validators
Also relies own Ethereum security for validator staking & checkpoints
EVM compatible
Allows Ethereum-based projects to effortlessly migrate their smart contracts
Projects already migrated or are in the process
Quickswap
SushiSwap
Aavegotchi
Polymarket
Polkamarkets
SuperFarm
