Slides for remote workshops
Remote workshops work best with 2-4 participants at a time, working together for 1.5 – 2 hours. This drastically changes the dynamics of the workshop. Instead of spending a lot of time physically together in a room, you’ll need to cut to the chase and get people actively involved very quickly to keep energy up and make the most of the time you have. While a longer presentation works very well for in-person workshops, it will work against you in remote workshops.
You have two options in remote workshops best-case scenarios:
1. 1. Invite all participants to a 60-minute remote Introduction to Ad Hoc Personas presentation. This is the same content you’d start your in-person workshops with. You’ll follow this invite-all presentation with the smaller-group workshops. This is an important step if:
2. a. Your organization has never used personas and has no idea what they are
3. b. Your organization has tried personas in the past and they’ve failed miserably
4. c. You are dealing with participants who will spend all their time fighting the process if they don’t feel completely educated as to why you are asking them to do what you’ll have them do during the workshops.

1. 2. Skip the introduction and move directly to the hands-on workshops. Do this if:
2. a. You’ve got significant top-down buy-in, to the extent that you feel the participants know that they just have to do what you ask them to do with no questions asked (“we’re doing this because Henrietta Head Honcho says we’re doing this. Let’s get started.”)
