Holiday policy

What are we trying to achieve with our holiday policy?

A rested team, all year around: this means people taking holidays throughout the year to be able to do our best work. It also means spreading holidays around so that we don’t burn out from long stretches without a break.

Public holidays
From 2023, bank holidays in UK and India will no longer be booked by default. This is because one of the QOps principles is that team members have ownership of their RG and that team members can decide whether to take the standard bank holidays or take time off at another point in time when it suits them.

2023 - bank holidays no longer booked by default
Pre-2023, at the start of the new calendar year, all UK bank holidays were booked off for the whole UK team by default.
In India, the days that were booked off by default were New Year’s Day, Republic Day, Holi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali, Boxing Day, Christmas Day, unless they fall on a weekend. You could choose to book other days throughout the year.
Except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, you could later decide if you’d rather work that day so you can build up your holiday allowance.

2021 COVID roll forward of holidays + encashment
With 2021 being another COVID year, everyone will be able to either carry forward up to 10 days of holidays maximum, or encash up to 10 days of holidays.
From 2022, the total number of days that you can either carry forward or encash will be limited to 5 - this is so that we have a rested team with holidays taken throughout the year.

2020 COVID roll forward of holidays
Due to COVID19, we are going to relax our holiday carry forward policy. Everyone will be able to carry 10 days of holidays at maximum.
We are mandating that everyone takes at least least 8 days before the end September (pro-rated if you’ve started part year through the year) to reduce burnout and to help the company with future planning.
