Solar CSP
Concentrated Solar Power
Rather than directly converting photons to electricity, CSP plants employ mirrors to concentrate the sunbeams on a central point. This point often contains salt, which is melted by the heat, This heat is then used to generate steam, which drives turbines to generate electricity.
One of the advantages of these plants are that the molten salt stays hot for up to 9 hours after the sun has set, extending the hours of power generation.
