Not included in backlog mainly because it’s something we as a team need to sort out/go over & the time urgency is after the 3 weeks. Also Some of these aren’t exactly as applicable to Electrical (and some are specific to me) but for transparency reasons are all located here. My brain is slowly dying.
Scrum Style Reconfiguration - Reflect on what parts work, what doesn’t, etc, reconfigure where we need to (Does a task checklist suffice instead of sprints?). We know how Mechanical is doing for task management, we should see what works for them, what doesn’t work, and then one up them cause we’re just better.
Select Subteams - We can’t put this off foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrr (Putting this off until the Bose Day?)
Rules 2024 - A ton of significant changes (250 total including minor ones like spelling but its is still a LOT) compared to 2023. Some of the major ones were highlighted in the EV Workshop but we as a leadership will need to read & go through everything after Bose Day, and then write out tasks for what we need to change, if we do. Hopefully by this point everyone will have watched Amit’s system overview so we know how the rule relates to us. Please look at the Rules workshop notes for a quick overview on stuff that changed that is important:
What paperwork does Electrical Lead need to Handle (What form do I have to fill out as the ESO?)
Meet with Mechanical on rule changes as well (Current collaboration between Elect + Mech is very very sad) and actually get Electrical members to understand/link physical parts to our schematics and diagrams
All leads bonding?? 👀
Electrical leads culture: Set some ground rules for communication (channels, damn I’ve dropped the ball on this one 😢), transparency, making sure the right people are in the loop, how do we loop in senior engineers, how do we loop in first years, lots of food for thought on how we can set the tone to making Electrical a collaborative and exciting place.
First Years vs Returning Members - We need to have a talk on how we should treat each of them. As a team we’ve been a pendulum of either prioritizing first years too much or returning members too much. Can we strike a balance?
Communication & Design Reviews - Not just communicating the status of stuff, but also how we communicate. Again tying back into using channels, looping the right people in, etc. Currently not applicable since we’ve designed everything, but we should try to implement more design reviews and in a less formal setting (We should have all team design reviews & also smaller group ones with senior engineers/leadership). We can be professional as well as chill. Electricals’ culture is a lot different from Mechanical (Why aren’t we roasting anyone?????), lets see what works for them, what works for us, and then try to set some goals.
Are we still moving forward with STM32 respinning projects for first years? Can we come up with something better? Honestly this might depend on whether we make the 3 weeks deadline or something catastrophically annoying comes up during integration (de-bugging might be something we can drag first years into).
Organize, organize, organize (Yes it’s a Sisyphean task):
Figure out all the tools we need, what parts we need/use, order PROPER BINS FOR STORAGE OMG IM SO DONE WITH THESE GRAY BINS. We have a fricking label maker, NO MORE PINK STICKY NOTES ON BINS.
Organize all useful links in ONE PLACE. How do we not have a Coda page with links to our drive, significant documents, MKV & MKVI documentation directory, financial, etc. We’re all too lazy to go through 3 directories to get to a folder, so let’s invest in some good UI.
Standardizing parts has been something every single E-lead has futilely attempted so far. Y’all lets continue that streak!
ORGANIZE CODA. Move the Electrical Task Tracking into Coda after we organize this. Documentation also needs to be addressed. This will probably be a Core Leads discussion
ORGANIZE SLACK. So many channels, So many people. We need to:
A). raise awareness for which channels everyone should join by default based on role on team (i.e all sub team leaders should be in all channels related to electrical just so they know what’s going on, all returning members should also be looped into as many channels as necessary).
B). cut down/consolidate on dead channels. Channel usage is definitely seasonal but we have a couple tidbits that aren’t necessary. If we can consolidate channels then more communication happens in one place which means that we can truly see how active our team is. An active team is good for team health.
C). Remove unnecessary members. We pay per member so we should try and clean Slack up a bit. More of a Core leads talk
Team Philosophy on Operations: This is more of a MKVII task, but we need to figure out whether to have complete vertical integration, decide what to outsource, how a standard workflow is going to work. For example, should we just assemble all boards in house? What are the pros & cons?
Set up a Design Matrix to guide our decisions when it comes time to MKVII (A Tesla EV Workshop idea)
Start our sponsorship hunt 😭
Start dragging in outside advice (Any professors/experienced adults who could give advice?)
Knowledge Transfer: We gotta figure out the best way for this. No idea how.
