As to the other 4 MRU videos, yes we could pay if things shift but I don't think we can log in now as since the scripts don't exist, just locked in shoot dates we don't know what skill sets we need or video tiers. I assume they will be first tier.but maybe with some simple stuff in there.
If we had scripts by July 10th, you could start doing styleframes and script breakdown. Performance cuts probably by July 25th. End dates hard to tell but would like to see what could be done by end of October.
MRU graph videos
Chris: The idea is that there are some very old Powerpoint only videos and they want to upgrade them ever so slightly to be based around Alex or Tyler onscreen and then cutting away to primarily graph animations.
The videos are long, like probably 8 minutes each.
And trying to fit it within the dregs of what is left in possible budget, as if not then they'll just do them internally. However I want to avoid that as the more internal they go, the quality of the expectations for the videos go down and they then do less and less of higher tier videos. We're still trying to crawl out of that slump.
They aren't expecting anything special as they are just very straight forward teaching videos, kind of like the Macmillan graphs.
So my question for you is...
- Do you think this is something we could have someone like Chad primarily handle? And if so, availability and interest? I would imagine could have the performance cuts ready by the end of July, with deliveries spread out between October to December, but busting through them would be handy.
- Would we be able to make them work for a budget like MacMillan?
- And what is most reasonable lowest end you think you'd be able to work on? These would be prorated by hour, but I'd need a cap to be able to get it cleared that we'd need to work our best to abide by as long as they don't throw monkey wrenches in. And really, having to make these dirt cheap, but with the idea that with them will come another two high polish videos and then maybe another several later in the Fall.
Notes:
no design requirements as we are using the established style
Estimate:
estimate per minute of graph animation (assuming 2 revision passes) rough>fine>final
estimate per minute of MG animation (this would likely include some basic design.
estimate per minute of revisions on client revisions (as opposed to revisions based on fixing mistakes we might have made).
Revisions need to be kept strictly to the 2 passes - beyond that Chad’s regular rate applies.
To keep the cost down, the estimate will assume that there will clear instructions in the script as to which graph from the PP document will be used and how.
Set-in-stone delivery dates and milestones are necessary as Chad is not always available.
Chad’s rate = USD24/hr
Based on Macmillan video Chad = R8,500 per 3.5 min video = USD470.-
Based on Macmillan approx. USD134/min
MRU videos will be around 4.8 mins, call it 5.
5mins of video x USD134 = USD670
Revisions = approx. 5 hrs = USD120
My involvement = 3 hrs per video = USD255
Hey Chris,
Here’s what I’ve come up with:
1 min of video = $140.-
1 round of reasonable revisions = $120.-
My involvement per video (which I’m guessing would be 3 hours for project management and anything else that might be required such as design tweaks or helping out with some animation) = $255.-
So for 5 mins of graph video this would come to:
5 x $140 = $700
2 x $120 = $240 (assuming two rounds of revisions)
1 x $255 = $255
TOTAL = $1,195 for 5 mins completed video.
This assumes the following:
Any mograph content would be only of the very most basic type.
I don’t need to jump in on revisions ie. we need enough lead time to book Chad in for the revisions
They provide all the necessary information to build the graphs in the form of the PowerPoint slides and written instructions and maybe sketches where required.
We have set dates for milestones/delivery dates. Revisions will be tough to nail as we don’t know how long they’ll take but it’s not an issue as long as we have some leeway if Chad’s not available for a day or two.
The above does not include markups or padding of any kind and is what I’d consider to be bare minimum and the only reason it’s really possible at all is due to Chad’s very low rate. The other reason it’s low is due to the fact that I’m not getting involved with design, template and revisions. I guess what I’m getting at is that there’s no room for MRU surprises especially with regard to what constitutes "reasonable revisions".
Anyhow, I reckon this should cover it. Let me know.
Ciao
Ole
