In reapproaching the opening for AI02, I think I have some solutions.
- Ditch the initial wormhole idea. Ditch the sound waves.
- The main thing is we want to not distract from the dialogue and ideally the visuals support the dialogue
- So could we...
Start with out three silhouetted guitarists and then ripples or waves start to echo out from them.
Then zoom out from the silhouettes with waves going out., like ripples in a puddle. Or maybe more like the reverberations of an audio speaker?
And we are now surrounding by the blurs of light in the background and the silhouettes feeling like they are far away from another time.
Then just put the embrace and dismiss visual used currently in the end over this.
“And if you listen closely, you’ll hear a lesson reverberating into the present: When faced with something new and revolutionary, do you embrace it — or dismiss it?”
The visual really just needs to support that line so that it’s clear that we’re telling you this story from history because it has a lesson you can use today.
Ending
As for the AI02 ending in relation to the timeline, we're going to need to rewrite the dialogue help deliver the story as right now the concept is too dense and we need to explain it more.
So in rewriting this, conceptually I think it makes it more clear as I think if you are seeing the people you really have to say why we are seeing it. We don't have to be tied to the timeline, but I don't think we should ditch it all together as it seems weird to establish it and then leave it all together as it kind of was like visual bookends to the video. I am thinking maybe the invention/person shows up on the timeline and then we zoom in deep or rack focus close to the camera. I'm not sure, mainly I think we need to subtly keep the timeline around.
We'd want to use real images and footage when appropriate. What I had in mind was combining more static images of the invention with more dynamic images of the impact.
Here is a rough rewrite of the script so if you can start to build it out.
LINE 1 - "Echols’ initial reaction to the wah wah pedal is natural – new technology can be overwhelming" - Show wah wah pedal with dismiss sound waves
LINE 2 - "But this mindset can lead to missed opportunities. Think about new inventions from the past…" - Rather than timeline we feature each new invention, then the person (maybe here we use our embrace sound wave to capture their mindset), then the impact.
LINE 3 - "How do you react to the invention of the steam engine? James Watt invented it, but Richard Trevithick embraced the new technology and used it to transform transportation forever. A Cornish mining engineer he sees the potential beyond their mining use, and through relentless experimentation creates the first steam-powered locomotive in 1804, carving the path for the railroad revolution." - So stationary steam engine (Watt), Trevithick, then a steam railroad
Yeah real is what I was thinking. What I had in mind was combining more static images of the invention with more dynamic images of the impact. So like:
This is to emphasize the impact by going from static to high impact video.
LINE 4 - "What about computers? Back in the 19th century Charles Babbage invented them, but it wasn't until 100 years later that Mathematician Katherine Johnson saw the opportunity to use them to get us to the moon with NASA's Apollo 11 mission."
LINE 5 - "What about the internet? Jeff Bezos embraced... blah blah." - Internet, Bezos, Amazon trucks (drones?), Kindles reading everywhere
LINE 6 - "Those who embraced change shaped the future."
