Backstory

Backstory
Narcissa, known as "Nancy Altman" (the Anglicized name she adopted upon arriving in England), was born on September 10, 1875 in the Philippine Islands. Her ancestry can be traced back to her mother's family, who were renowned ancient healers in the Philippines during pre-colonial times. However, with the advent of Spanish colonizers and the dominance of Roman Catholicism in Philippine society, the practice of magical healing was deemed dark magic and witchcraft, punishable by death. As a result, Nancy's magical family lived in secrecy away from the cities for generations, preserving their ancient healing practices.

Family Origins
Nancy's mother, Elena, crossed paths with Josef, a wizard-researcher with roots in the Bavarian Kingdom, who journeyed to the Philippine Islands to explore diverse magical traditions in Southeast Asia. During his fieldwork, Josef encountered an unfortunate incident where he was mistaken for a threat by a native and severely injured. It was Elena's unique magical abilities that saved him, and the two fell deeply in love. Despite opposition from Elena’s family, who feared Josef was a colonizer, the couple chose to be together and raised their daughter, Narcissa or "Nancy," with a rich blend of magical knowledge from both their backgrounds.

Education and Upbringing
Under the guidance of her parents, Nancy grew up learning her family's ancient healing practices from her mother and benefited from Josef's extensive knowledge acquired during his time at Hogwarts. As she matured, the Philippine Islands were fraught with political unrest and conflict between natives and colonizers. Recognizing Nancy's extraordinary abilities and potential, Josef and Elena believed she could use her magic to address the social, political, and religious issues that plagued her homeland, seeking to end centuries of oppression and cruelty against her fellow countrymen.

Path to Hogwarts
Before she turned fifteen, Josef wrote letters to his most trusted colleague in the Ministry of Magic, Eleazar Fig, who had been a mentor to him during his own time at Hogwarts. Josef sought Eleazar's guidance in bringing Nancy to Hogwarts, believing that the prestigious school could help hone her magical skills and provide her with the knowledge and platform to make a difference in the world.

Why Slytherin?
Nancy's proficiency in magical healing involving plants and herbs and her warm and friendly nature would typically align her with Hufflepuff. However, her experiences in witnessing the suffering and oppression endured by her people at the hands of colonizers instilled in her a strong ambition and cunning desire to use her magical powers to combat these injustices. Driven by her determination to bring about change and justice, Nancy found herself sorted into Slytherin House, where she could learn to harness her ambition and cunning to achieve her noble goals.

Nancy's Encounter with the Slytherin Boys
Upon entering the Slytherin Common Room for the first time, Nancy was introduced to a group of fellow students. Among them was Sebastian Sallow, a dedicated wizard who spent most of his time delving into advanced magical spells in search of a cure for his sister, Anne. Nancy admired Sebastian's determination and commitment to helping his family, finding common ground in their shared passion for healing.
As Nancy further explored the common room, she came across Ominis Gaunt, a blind student who fascinated her with his ancestral ties to Salazar Slytherin. Ominis bore the weight of a troubled family history and a painful childhood, which deeply resonated with Nancy. She couldn't help but draw parallels between the suffering of her own countrymen in the Philippine Islands and Ominis' agony. This connection formed a strong bond between them, and Nancy found herself spending most of her time with Ominis, forging a deep and meaningful friendship.
As time went on, Nancy and Ominis' friendship blossomed into a profound love relationship. However, amidst their growing affection, Nancy faced her own inner struggles. Though gifted in the magical healing arts, she remained unaware of her potential to harness the ancient magic that lay dormant within her. This realization weighed on her conscience, especially when she discovered that Sebastian's sister, Anne, needed a cure that she might be able to provide if she fully understood and unlocked her ancient magical abilities.
Nancy’s life in the Wizarding World of England
Nevertheless, Nancy's focus was pulled in multiple directions. While she yearned to help Sebastian and his sister, her heart and mind were equally consumed by her determination to save the wizarding community from the clutches of the oppressive forces led by Ranrok and Rookwood. She embarked on a journey to discover the secrets of Ancient Magic, hoping that this power would aid her in defeating the tyrants who held her homeland in their grip.
As she delved deeper into the realm of Ancient Magic, Nancy found herself facing incredible challenges. The pursuit of knowledge and power demanded dedication and time, and she struggled to balance her newfound studies with her responsibilities as a student at Hogwarts. Despite the weight on her shoulders, Nancy remained undeterred, knowing that the liberation of her people and the possibility of curing Anne were causes worth fighting for.
Her journey at Hogwarts became a complex tapestry of friendship, love, and the pursuit of a higher purpose. With Ominis by her side, she found strength and solace amidst the turmoil. Together, they would face the trials ahead, as Nancy sought to hone her skills, mend the wounds of her land, and ultimately bring hope to her countrymen. Nancy Altman's story of resilience and determination echoed through the hallowed halls of Hogwarts, inspiring all who crossed paths with this exceptional Filipino Slytherin witch.
