Applying the Brand Online & Offline: Mockups

Problem

The same fonts, colors, etc are used everywhere - how to present your concepts?

We’ll cover:

Why we have to show some application mockups
Which mockups you should consider doing
Working with great mockups

Why Create Mockups?

Clients lack imagination
People do not fall in love with a style guide
We’re using this to sell the potential of the identity

We’re not looking to create something final - we just want to get approval from the client
This is your chance to be fun and creative.
This is not always a linear process.

Which mockups you should design

Website (must)
Social Media (must)
T-shirt (optional)
Office sign (optional)
Business card (optional)
App screen + icon (depends on industry)
Bag (depends on industry)
Packaging (depends on industry)
Exhibition stand (depends on industry)
Car (depends on industry)
Menu (depends on industry)

Design what you agreed on, but if you can do more (over deliver), it will be great!
Use mockups to make their fantasies come to life.
And upsell the “actual” design of those elements - if you get an opportunity to do so.

Use great mockups

Where to find them

Google search “[object] free PSD” / “[object] smart object”
Adobe Marketplace
Consider buying a premium template
Consider creating your own

Make sure the mockups are in line with your creative direction

Summary

You need to show the brand in real life to sell it
The more examples you have the better
Use the right mockups to tell the story
