VanDAM is our original digital asset management system, it has been around since 2014. VanDAM is a folder based DAM with a very simple permissions model. We store assets for each campaign Marketing supports, and the begin finding assets, you will always start with the Campaign Name.
While we do allow users to tag assets with a limited amount of metadata, it’s important to note that NO ONE tags our assets (boo) and therefore finding assets via a search function is nearly impossible. To find an asset, you really need to know which folder the asset would be in.
The problem with this is that if a folder is locked and you are not 1. an admin, or 2. manually invited to that folder, then you can’t see which assets are in the folder and you certainly can’t access them either.
Permissions are simple:
VanDAM Internal User - Can access any assets that are not in locked folders, must be added manually to access locked folders
VanDAM Admin - Can access any assets in any folder, including locked folders (we try to limit the amount of Admins)
VanDAM External User - Can only see and access folders they’ve manually been added to
Integrations:
VanDAM is the backbone of CCM. All working files must be in specific folders in VanDAM in order for CCM to pick up those files, marry the video, subs and dubs, and transcode final assets to different specs. Once an asset is complete in VanDAM, it delivers the final file back to VanDAM and to PAL.
VanDAM is connected to PAL via a “Publish to PAL” workflow. If a user has the “Publish to PAL” permission, they can push assets from VanDAM to PAL. We restrict this permission to only certain external agencies and our Art & Print, AV, and Digital producer teams. Certain workflows require this manual push, but we really want people to stick with the automated workflows in our connected ecosystem whenever possible (e.g. POP > CCM > PAL > Socialite).
that explains what VanDAM is. Please note, there are no other videos, even though this video says there will be more videos 🙈
PAL - Promotional Asset Library
PAL is our centralised platform for discovering, searching, and sharing final promotional assets created by Product and Marketing teams. PAL is a metadata driven DAM, unlike VanDAM which depends on a folder structure to organise assets. PAL was born approximately 5 years ago. It started as CAB - Common Asset Browser, then it was known as Adama - 🤷, and finally PAL - Promotional Asset Library. No matter the name, the goal and vision has always been the same; to create a place for all final promotional assets to be stored, shared, and reused between teams.
