Instructions

Instead of beginning at the beginning here, we’re going to begin at the end. This is going to be your master list of supplies that you’ll be ordering or moving around your shop. You’ll notice that the name of the item itself is procedurally generated from the inputs you put into the other fields. This ensures naming consistency across your shop. Add in the suppliers, specs, colors, brand, and supply type, and then any relevant description of the item that you want to appear in the title. Also enter in whether you order from that supplier online or you send them an email. If you order online, please include the link that you would like the QR code on the Kanban to direct you to to expedite the reorder process.
Again, I find it very, very helpful to color-code your titles based on attributes. In this case, the text of the Item indicates the area within the shop the item is stored. If the fill is blank, then it’s not an item ordered from an external supplier, if the fill is green, it’s ordered online, and if the fill is blue, it’s ordered via email. You can edit the supply names in the table below by adjusting the values in the columns that contribute to the name, but I also wanted to introduce you to the buttons below the Supplies heading. Those are simple and convenient ways to create new supplies, suppliers, kanbans, and tasks. Clicking the button will open up a modal that allows you to enter in the information you’ll need to be successful using Coda to manage your Kanban-based resupply process. Once you’ve added a few supples, collapse the Supplies table and head over to the Support Tables below.

You’ve been adding values to these tables as you’ve been adding supplies, but I find it really informing and helpful to categorize and color-code them. If you like, you can play around with your
Master Supply Categories

, and even add in some
Master External Suppliers

and their primary contacts.You’ll notice that the Primary Contacts appear in little bubbles right now. That’s because you’re actually creating references on your
Master Contacts

table. Even the
Master External Suppliers
⁠
table is a view of the
Master Companies
⁠
table, which will include your suppliers as well as your customers, partners, and other corporate entities you do business with. Defining and color-coding these is optional, but in my opinion very helpful! Finally, let’s go back to the
Kanban

page for the last part of this walkthrough. When you get there, collapse all of the Instructions and open the
Kanban
⁠
table.
