Instructions

Let’s start by listing our the types of products you sell without getting into any of the various attributes. For instance, if this were for a grocery store, the list would look something like, “Apples, Bananas, Pears, etc.” rather than, “Organic Dole Granny Smith Apple, Organic Dole Red Delicious Apple”.
Once you’ve done that, let’s start adding in those specific attributes, like size, collection, etc. You can do that by adding a new column to the table below for each attribute. When you’re prompted to choose a column type, choose “Select List” and then click “+New”
You should see a new column pop up called “Select list”. Go ahead and double click the column header to change its name to the attribute that you want represented in that column. To add the options that you want to select from, over over the column header and click on the little rectangle on the header’s right side and clicking “Column Options”. You should see a blank field where you can add in various options to select from and a toggle that allows a single cell to contain multiple values or not. After you’ve completed that, in your table, each item type’s row should now have a blank cell where you can select which of the items in the select list you’ve just defined are available as options for that particular product type.
You can keep adding columns to represent attributes of your products. What I like to do is convert these select lists into their own tables so that you can weave even more logic and intelligence into your workflows. For instance, if some colors are only available in certain collections, you can correlate those by creating two separate tables and then limiting the color options available based on the item’s collection.

Product Type Support Tables

As you filled out the various parameters of your products, you probably ended up with a bunch of support tables. Those can go down here. It’s very useful to use conditional formatting on these support tables because Coda allows source formatting to persist, meaning that every time you reference something like a supplier or an item, its color coding has the opportunity to convey information to you. This becomes very useful with and .
In your product types table, it can also be useful to make Linked Relations to your support tables rather than just relations. You can do this by hovering over the header and clicking column options. This will become useful later when we use this product types table to generate your list of SKUs because you can filter your total list of skus by filtering one attribute by another. In the example above, not every color is available in every collection. However, because I made and linked relations, I can tell Coda to only generate a product sku for colors in the right collection.
