Objectives

Understand how the GoodMaps app is structured
Adjust Settings within the GoodMaps app

Materials

iPhone or Android phone with GoodMaps downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store. This may be the student's personal device, the teacher's device, or a school-issued device.

Lesson Introduction

Prior to engaging in this lesson, it is recommended that students complete the lesson, which includes directions for how to download GoodMaps to a smartphone. To introduce the lesson, consider giving a presentation on the role of technology in our lives and how technology can be used to support daily life. Additionally, offer students a basic overview of the key features/screens in the GoodMaps app, where each can be found, and the purpose for each, including:
The GoodMaps Home Screen
Location Search
Directory, Sort & Filter
Menu and Settings
Explore All Buildings
Turn-by-Turn Routing

Main Activity: Practice Getting Started with GoodMaps

Ask students to engage in the following activities:
Launch GoodMaps with screen reader/talkback activated.
Explore the GoodMaps interface.
Ask questions if you are uncertain about anything you encounter while exploring the app.
Review all of the options under the Settings list, and adjust settings according to your preferences.

Ask students to complete .
