Project Management

The original idea was to have a project-based-learning stream that encompassed both Art and EdTech projects. The crux of PBL is ‘real life outcomes’. It became quickly apparent that our learners have great potential as project planners. The planning and execution of a project is, in itself, the real life application.
My focus shifted from giving learners firm instructions, to helping them structure their own ideas into learning opportunities. Most had an idea of what they wanted to do, and the learning came from retrospectively creating a discussion guide to link that project to a grander theme or to another Art/EdTech project.
This has definitely been the biggest learning takeaway from the Project Lab this year, and learners are responding extremely well.
Project-planning wins:
Learners are bringing their own ideas to class
Learners are completing better feedback forms, with more comprehensive ideas and easily recognisable thought processes
Learners are working on extra projects, at their own discretion, in their own time. (No additional work/homework is officially prescribed)
Classroom culture: The class is able to arrive at class and decide on an agenda, which is entirely student centred and mostly student-led.
This is the form which learners use to initiate a new idea.
