Planning the retreat in a more sustainable and responsive manner must keep in mind that not all initiatives are possible. Some amazing initiatives and targets are strategic to sustainability, but demand resources that are beyond the capacity and resources available for a team offsite. And that is OK!
The Sustainable+ framework focus on:
Every impact counts!
Introduce initiatives that are free, low-cost or double bottom-line benefits.
Choose initiatives that demand low resources during the retreat
Inspire team purpose and
catalyse climate changes, now!
According to the UN, a Sustainable Event is “one designed, organised and implemented in a way that minimises potential negative impacts and leaves a beneficial legacy for the host community”.
Our Sustainable+ Retreat framework analysed more than 80 Sustainable Event Guides and aligned the initiatives with the core components of Retreat Planning:
By focusing the Sustainable+ framework on core retreat components, it prioritises initiatives that are possible and feasible that also do the most impact for attendees as well as the community.
Through this focus on core retreat components, we can capitalise on what we do best: delivering an amazing retreat with unforgettable experiences, productivity-driven and team growth. We focus on the most impact for the attendees and, also when is possible, do the right thing, do good and do positive impact.
The focus of the Sustainable+ Framework is to prioritise initiatives that are possible and feasible now, catalyst for impacting attendees and the community, and making choices that can generate positive impact opportunities with the budget and resources available.
In terms of small events like offsite, the retreat impacts were grouped so it could be simultaneously applied to Venue (powering sustainability) and activities (powering impact):
