EXAMPLE
Hello my name is John Smith[INSERT NAME HERE] and I am a resident of Scranton.
I attended Pine Hollow Middle School and Clayton Valley Charter High School. My family also runs a business near the Clayton Valley Shopping Center. I grew up in this city and I am proud to call it my home, but with the lack of affordable housing options near jobs and transit, I fear that my family and I will no longer be able to afford the increasing rent prices nor be able to become homeowners with the average home costing well over one million dollars. I believe this housing element is pivotal for creating a resilient, diverse, and thriving community here in Clayton.
Given the pace of climate change, it is absolutely critical that we preserve our open spaces for climate benefits like carbon sequestration and wildfire mitigation and build denser housing in existing communities. We need to upzone and build affordable infill housing in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the southern two parcels in site J are 1000 feet from an active quarry. I would like to recommend that site J be removed from consideration altogether.
In terms of the draft goals I think this is a good start overall but believe that there needs to be more language surrounding climate change such as “Manage the threat of climate risks on existing and future infrastructure and require nature-based solutions for climate resilience.”
Being only 24, I hope that through just and ambitious planning efforts I will one day be able to afford to raise a family of my own here in Clayton.
I commend your efforts throughout this process and thank you for your time and consideration.
