Background info

Salitre is the place of endless conflict between landowners and indigenous people. Two indigenous leaders were killed and the State of Costa Rica became deaf. The loss of land is a product of the lack of political will on the part of the Costa Rican State. In the legal system, until a few decades ago, the autonomy of indigenous lands was proclaimed as a national interest, although it has not been 100%.
