What locations will you be volunteering at and what will you do?

Madridi Street Refugee Shelter
support the operation of the shelter, like logistics, room preparation and washing
kitchen support and food serving during breakfast, lunch and dinner
run a kid's corner and try to involve them in your activities or play/teach them new things (laugh, run and movement)
speak with people staying in the shelter, bring them happy moments and fun
there will be two shifts:
9 am till 3 pm with 2 volunteers
2 pm till 8 pm with 2 volunteers
Learning Without Borders School
support the schools and teacher from 10.30 am till 5 pm
help with the lunch serving and cleaning
organise and facilitate afternoon clubs
1-2.30 pm for younger children (age 6-10) like art&craft, sport and games
2-4 pm for older youth (age 10-14) like dance, programming, phone video editing

How to start?

Before the arrival we ask participants to complete a self-study course () and send the completion certificate of it by the 29th of February. First you have to register on (enough to give the mandatory informations) and after that you can open the course. When you finished you can print a certificate in PDF format, please send this to us in a mail. It’s advised to learn more about Games with a psychosocial aim, for this please check this or , or even to check other courses and guidance how to work with refugees.
Join a preparation call to meet fellow volunteers and any questions you may have before the travel. It will be on the 29th February at 5-6 pm in CET (Budapest time) on google meets. Video call link:
On the first Sunday (10th March) a one day orientation training (9.00 a.m. - 6 p.m.) will be provided by Egyesek staff members to discuss the schedule, rules and prepare for the service. We will meet at 9 a.m. at the hostel and will go together to the Egyesek’s office nearby.
This will be followed by mentoring sessions to support the learning and professional development of you. In the shelters and school the staff (teachers and other volunteers) will provide further support if required.

What else will happen?

there will be feeling meetings and reflection groups during the program to support your emotional well-being and learning
on the 2nd week we will even organise an Intercultural event in our office together with Hungarian youngsters to let you familiarize more with the life here
we will suggest opportunities for the free time and help in anything you need!
