Welcome to the lab and thank you for offering to help in the lab. We hope that the time you spend will be productive and a good learning experience. At the end of your volunteering period, you will be rewarded with RPS credit and experience to enrich your CV.

RPS credits

The RPS volunteer scheme can only contribute to 2/3 of the total credit requirement. These hours need to be consistent with the credits required for the course. So students can volunteer for 10 hours in total but they will receive a maximum of 7 credits worth. They will still need to earn 3 credits from RPS studies. If the volunteer hours are less than the total required then these hours count towards the in-person studies requirement.

Lab safety

Lab access is strictly controlled and only permitted to staff who are lab members and select students, who will be given access to the building by their manager / supervisor

All team members who have been given independent lab access, including volunteers, need to have an induction to the lab, and this is achieved by reading this guide, especially the health and safety and lab access pages.
