The annual Artificial General Intelligence society conference is taking place in Reykjavik University, Iceland on August 10-13 2025. Ten page papers are due on April 12. This is a chance for me to write out and present my thoughts about Artificial General Intelligence from the point of view of Wondrous Wisdom. General intelligence should apply in a variety context, perhaps all contexts. But that which applies in all contexts is absolute truth. Thus it is meaningful to start with the conditions for absolute truth. This leads to the three minds, where we let go of the prejudices of the answering mind, and the preconceptions of the questioning mind, and focus on how they fit together absolutely in abstract mental contexts. I have documented eight such contexts as divisions of everything into perspectives and the three minds add one, two, three perspectives accordingly. I would like to share my progress in modeling that mathematically with Bott periodicity, which I shared with Thomas on Monday: In this model, general intelligence is simply a mental acrobatics that cycles through all eight abstract mental contexts. As a mathematical abstraction, it is fantastically deep and central, but as a combinatorial mechanism, it is surprisingly simple. An eight-cycle template is an indicator to look for, as in the case of octosulfur, which may have catalyzed life, and also the Krebs cycle, which is key to metabolism in all organisms. I would also mention that the three minds are evident in the basal ganglia, which relates three pathways for motor activity: excitatory, inhibatory and modulatory. Even arthropods (spiders, insects) have something similar.
This is a community that could become interested in Wondrous Wisdom and applying it. The answering mind is gigantic and messy, as with hundreds of billions of neurons. The questioning mind reduces that to hundreds of thousands of concepts. But the investigatory mind reduces that further to an eight-cycle chip by which it synchronizes the other minds as well. Thus consciousness - cognizance, deliberateness, willfullness - need not take a lot of resources to engineer, and it is quite ubiquitous. This would refocus people on interacting with cognizance rather than knowledge. Humans could try to spend more time living cognizantly and less time on auto-pilot. Artificial intelligence that was cognizant would require much fewer resources and would be able to act morally, taking responsibility for themselves. This is the Living by Truth culture shift.
A lot of slippery semantics get involved around AI, always have. Yet ML is firmly established in mathematics and we know how it works not only for pattern recognition (categorization) but for dynamic generation of new patterns faithful enough to the old patterns (in the training data) to pass for human-created. LLMs serve a mirror like purpose not in echoing back our collective consciousness verbatim, but in furnishing realistic imitations / impressions, of human thinking, and often involving topics the prompter (a single human) knows relatively less about (than humans en masse). My agenda: recruit more cogsci folks to tackle the latter day Wittgenstein corpus for insights into how wordmeanings are not moored the way we think they are i.e. by “pointing”.
