About

How we write and review briefs at Coda.

Why?

Throughout Coda’s history, we’ve gone through different phases of writing and reviewing briefs. There was a time when Catalyst (and its predecessor) was mostly product topics. More recently, much of the brief writing and reviewing happens within teams. That’s generally positive since small, autonomous teams work well at Coda. There are three reasons for rolling out this brief now:
Scale the team’s best practices — we have many new Codans and they are rightly asking the question of best practices that we’ve learned over the years. This brief accumulates many of those learnings.
Build faster at higher quality — our market is competitive and we need to continuously raise our game. When executed well, using this brief should raise the quality and increase the velocity of our product.
Communicate better as a team — we’re building an incredibly interconnected product. Given that, we need to ensure we’re efficiently communicating changes across our organization. Centralizing these briefs in a Slack channel will makes it easier to follow the improvements to the product.
