Impact on Intrinsic Motivation

Relatedness refers to the need to feel connected, accepted, and understood by others. When people feel a sense of belonging or meaningful connection to others, they are more likely to internalize values and behaviors that align with the group, which can lead to greater intrinsic motivation. This social connection provides emotional support and validation, which enhances one’s motivation to continue engaging in the activity.
Example: A person who feels part of a team and has good relationships with their colleagues will feel more motivated to work hard and enjoy the collective achievement.
