Montenegro Weather and Clothing Preparations

Long Term weather forecast can be checked here:
https://www.yr.no/en/forecast/daily-table/2-3197538/Montenegro/Kotor/Kotor
Soon it can be checked for actual weather while we are there.
To travel comfortably it is recommended to not bring too much clothing but of course also not too little. For this reason it is important to keep mind the temperature and climate during the time we are in Montenegro.

Kotor Bay May Weather: https://www.holiday-weather.com/kotor/averages/may/

For some this may be warmer than the average temperature than where you live, for others it may be slightly or a lot cooler.

Recommendation:

Purchase clothing that meets the climate in Montenegro prior to leaving for your trip to not have to make (emergency) purchases upon arrival.
There are 9 days on average of rain during May so it is also good to prepare for this.

Montenegro Plug type & Electricity

Voltage used: 220V
Important: Most modern devices have a voltage adapter built-in but please ensure that this is the case. Plugging a 110V device into a 200V circuit may cause your adapter/device to malfunction.

You can read more here:

On this page you can select the country where you live and then see if you need an adapter:
Important: This type of plug is mainly used in Europe so most likely the majority of you will need an adapter.

Recommended to do: Purchase one or multiple adapters prior to departure. Purchasing them at the airport or upon arrival can be more expensive and will cause more stress.

Local sim - eSim - Roaming

Your cell phone may work upon arrival depending on the type of (data)plan you have with your carrier. In pretty much all cases however it is recommended to not use your cell phone’s data plan (unless you have a roaming plan). Charges can get out of hand very very quickly and you can easily build up a bill of a couple of $100’s of USD.
The options for having data/phone line abroad: Roaming - Allows you to use your home country sim in other countries. Unless you
have a data plan purchased with your provide this can become expensive very quickly. Pro: You are ready upon arrival
Con: Unless you have unlimited data abroad this may still be expensive in the end if you do not keep an eye on data usage. (kids watching Youtube can send this skywards).
eSim - A virtual sim that can be installed on some phone where dual sim is available. Can work well and options below.
Pro: Can be set up prior to departure to start upon arrival Con: Still need to be careful with data usage to ensure correct plan is being used (or remove physical sim and only use eSim)
https://www.monito.com/en/best-esim-for/montenegro
Local physical (Montenegro) sim card - Most likely the easiest option is to purchase a local sim card with sufficient data.
Pro: Most likely cheapest of all solutions. Easy control of costs and easy to instal. Con: Can be purchased upon arrival https://montenegro.org/our-guide-to-the-best-sim-cards-in-montenegro/
Recommendations:
Check with your local provider for options but recommended to purchase eSim or local Sim card in most cases.
Turn off Cellular Data once you leave your country of residence as lots of apps use data even when not in use. This will prevent unexpected charges.
