Copy this simple Coda Doc made to serve any school district to improve distance learning and possibly replace your school's current static 1990's e-learning website.

In this living Doc, teachers will find professional development coaching, tutorials on Google Chrome, and interactive ways to collaborate in groups. EdTech teams who support teachers can now quickly build in house tools (no coding necessary) that do things like track student Chromebook inventory or instantly generate feedback on a new tool for teachers.

Our goal is to build one space for teachers and school admins to collaborate. We want to move away from the "static quo" and into the future.

The Big Problem

Distance learning is front and center for every school across the country this year, and many school districts have typically resisted investing in digital transformation. This year we have seen an accelerated shift, forcing schools to create better distance learning programs. As we move to a hybrid learning model, schools will begin to direct more funding and resources toward enabling teachers.

Too many school districts have

with great material and resources but lack collaboration. The technology we used in the past does not support a friendly user interface teachers need to do their jobs well, in a remote or hybrid environment.

We conducted user research.

Working with a group of teachers, we asked them to share problems they've been having and upvote their top 5 most important issues with their school’s distance learning this year.

Our music teacher missed the last three weeks of class because he didn't know how to log into the Zoom video! We need a better way to voice problems we run into with tools like Zoom and better access to live coaching sessions!

I'm fed up with the district! They have no idea what tools teachers want and how to communicate about the tools nobody uses.

WCCSD EdTech team publishes tons of eLearning Docs about new tools they roll out, but teachers don't even know where to find them or what tools are intended for specific grade levels.

Teachers are feeling isolated with distance learning. We have no real way to connect with other educators on different grade levels in the district, and remote work has limited teachers to their own grade level pods. It would be awesome if we could feel part of a larger community, interact on a group level that wasn't a 3-hour Zoom meeting.

Teachers have no way to keep track of tablets kids take home to use for distance learning. I'm trying to teach kids who don't have access to a computer. There are some kids that we're able to go pick up a laptop from school with their parents, but we have no idea how many kids use school-issued Chromebooks.

The EdTech team supports 1200 teachers in our school district. It's impossible to find the right way to communicate and provide support.

The data tells us we need to make it easier for teachers to voice their opinions as a group, build better onboarding methods, and create multiple ways for a small EdTech (or admin) team to support teachers at scale virtually. It's also essential to make a user experience that adopts the future of remote learning and a flexible approach to a hybrid method teachers will face in the future.

PD stands for professional development. You’ll also hear folks in the education space switch between synchronous and asynchronous learning. In this Doc, Teacher Tech Stack refers to asynchronous, and Teacher Coaching refers to synchronous learning.

Teachers can search archived tech lessons to watch on their own time. Teacher Upvoting will share metrics with the district to determine funding decisions based on teacher popularity and sentiment.

Teachers can sign up for 30-minute Zoom live lessons with teacher-coaches to learn new lessons, different teaching approaches, and live demos for tools like Google Slides or Meet.

School Chromebooks⁠

A simple tool for school IT Admins to keep inventory on student loaned Chromebooks. Admins can keep track of check computers in or out from anywhere, submit automated email reminders for missing Chromebooks, and provide an accurate inventory number each year to ensure the school always has a computer for every kid.

Suggest A New Tool⁠

⁠

A quick way for a teacher to ask for a new tool, let other teachers up vote the tool, and share quick metrics with IT Admins and Principals showing what teachers need for virtual learning.

This is a space for teachers to voice whatever they want! At the end of the week, you can ask the teacher community a question or up vote a popular tool. We want to keep finding ways to spread virtual positive vibes. 💯
