TLDR

WP2S represents many WP2s
A WP2 is a top-level domain located at wp2.* or wp2*.com
Each WP2 domain is a Cloudflare Zone and Github Repo
The collectives developing the WP2S ecosystem will help organizations migrate away from WP VIP, WP Cloud, WordPress.com, and any legacy ecosystem associated with Matt Mullenweg.

Overview

WP2S, the bridges, roads, and tunnels necessary for migrating the community away from WP1-affiliated solutions.
By leveraging modern technologies, enterprise tools, and logical structures, we aim to decentralize WordPress while adhering to common web standards and fostering reproducibility.
We’ll use top-level domains to assign specific purposes, guiding organization and functionality.
WPS2 is more than a collection of domains — it’s a framework for innovation built on collaboration, modularity, and scalability.
Each WP2 zone is thoughtfully structured using a paradigm of teams, projects, repos, docs, folders, and spaces, ensuring seamless workflows and alignment with enterprise standards.

Principles

Purpose-Driven Top-Level Domains

We use top-level domains (TLDs) to define the purposes and focus areas of different components in the WP2S ecosystem.
Each TLD is assigned to a specific team or function and aligns with a corresponding resource.
For example:
The design team uses the TLD wp2.design.
The engineering team uses the TLD wp2.engineering
This URL structure reflects purpose and establishes a decentralized framework that adheres to web standards, making each component independently operable and scalable.

Seamless Integration with Modern Tools

We leverage enterprise-grade tools to create a reproducible and logical path for managing the ecosystem.
GitHub: For version control, repository management, team collaboration, and project tracking.
Coda: For structured documentation and organization into folders, docs, and pages.
Bettermode: For community engagement and collaboration through spaces and CMS models.
Cloudflare: For DNS management and centralized configuration as zones.
Miro: For digital collaboration, brainstorming, and diagramming.

Workflow

Defining Purpose via Top-Level Domains
Assign a TLD to each specific purpose, function, or team.
Example: The design team’s domain is wp2.design.
Creating Repositories and Teams
Each TLD corresponds to a GitHub repository prefixed with wp2-.
Example: The repository for wp2.design is wp2-design.
Create a GitHub team for each repository to manage permissions and access.
Organizing Projects and Tasks
Use GitHub Projects to track progress and manage tasks for each repository.
Documentation in Coda
Set up a Coda folder for each domain or project.
Include structured documentation in Coda docs and pages, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
Discussions in Bettermode
Use Bettermode spaces for team collaboration and updates.
Leverage the Bettermode CMS to create posts, announcements, and structured discussions.
Managing Zones in Cloudflare
Register each domain and manage it as a Cloudflare zone for centralized DNS and configuration.

Example: wp2.design

Here’s how we organize and manage the wp2.design domain for the design team:
Top-Level Domain: wp2.design represents the design team’s purpose within the wp2 ecosystem.
GitHub Repository: wp2-design houses all design-related configuration and code.
GitHub Team: wp2-design manages repository access and collaboration.
GitHub Project: A project board tracks tasks, milestones, and deliverables for the design team.
Coda Folder: Documentation related to design lives in the wp2-design folder in Coda, organized into docs and pages.
Bettermode Space: Collaboration, updates, and discussions for the design team are facilitated in the wp2-design Bettermode space.

Decentralization

By combining purpose-driven domain structures, modular repositories, and enterprise tools, we are creating a decentralized and scalable ecosystem for WordPress. This approach ensures:
Logical Organization: Each domain, repository, and tool serves a specific, well-defined purpose.
Reproducibility: Standardized processes allow for easy replication and adaptation.
Alignment with Web Standards: URL structures and modern tools ensure compatibility and sustainability.
Collaboration at Scale: Teams, projects, and spaces provide robust frameworks for coordinated efforts.
With wp2, we are not just modernizing WordPress — we’re building a platform for the future of the web.
