This naming guide will help you increase sales by expanding the appeal of your templates. Coming up with original, descriptive names for templates is a difficult task because it can get repetitive due to animations styles, techniques and elements.
The following is an outline of best practices that we have learned over the years maintaining Videobolt.
Good practice
✅ Use a maximum of 24 characters (including spaces). This way the name of your template will display correctly on most resolutions and devices.
✅ Use specific words that reference fixed elements of the template — those that the user can’t change e.g. stripes, galaxy, trail, smoke, etc. This helps differentiate the template without limiting its uses.
Things to avoid
❌ Don’t use words that reference customizable elements Specific colors like purple, green, etc. Your sales could be negatively affected if users get the impression that something is set in stone.
✅ DO
Vortex Reveal
Realistic Explosion
❌ DON’T
Blue Vortex Logo Reveal
Realistic Explosion Intro
❌ Don’t use words that describe the originally intended industry like fashion, food, travel, HR, etc. The templates you create are often flexible enough to work just as well in other cases when customized, so we don’t want users to skip them because they think it is limited to a single industry.
✅ DO
Luxurious Media Fan
Colorful Business Promo
❌ DON’T
Fashion Opener
Job Offer Promo
❌ Don’t use numbers to denote a series of templates. Instead, use a descriptive word like rectangle, stripe, bubbles (3D), circles (2D), etc.
✅ DO
Marquee Slideshow Stripes
Marquee Slideshow Rhomboid
❌ DON’T
Marquee Slideshow 1
Marquee Slideshow 2
❌ Don’t use words that unnecessarily limit a template’s purpose: An intro can often be a great outro or even a transition and so on. As with everything, we don’t want users to disregard your template just because of this.
❌ Don’t use the names of specific social networks: We don’t want users to skip your template because they think it is only suitable for a specific social network.
