Creating and Managing Pages
Pages are the primary layout tool of this wiki and can be accessed through the sidebar on the left. To create a page-
Click the “+ New page” button at the bottom of the page list. Rename the page from the default “Untitled page” to something clear and descriptive—this keeps things tidy and findable. With so many wonderful employees, it’s easy for an unfinished page to get lost if it isn’t properly named! Keep the name simple and descriptive to its topic.
Once created, a page can be moved within the order by simply clicking and dragging. If your page expands on a topic already covered, make it a subpage within the parent subject. A subpage can be created by right-clicking on the parent page and clicking the “add subpage” button. Alternatively, a page can be click-and-dragged into the parent page after its creation. Remember Bootstrap Principle #12- organization is almost everything!
Writing and Editing a Page
Now that your page is created, it’s time to give it some substance! Creating page content is simple, just start typing! When creating content, always remember to follow best practices:
Detailed and descriptive: The more knowledge our employees share, the less likely they are to suffer an unfortunate and preventable accident! So when creating a page, make sue to go into sufficient detail that the reader comes out with a sufficient understanding of the topic. Organized and readable: Make use of headings, subheadings, and bullet points to make the entry as readable as possible. A forward slash (/) can be used for a number of advanced features, including adding tables, adding page layout features, or using pre-built templates. Finally, utilize graphics and diagrams to visually explain topics. Clear and concise: The reader is taking precious time out of work to educate themself on our company, so let’s not waste their time! Remember Bootstrap Principle #5- time is money and delay destroys the bottom line! So ensure that the reader is able to skip, scan, and skim to the information they need. Structured and consistent: Economy of scale applies to more than just products! By utilizing a consistent structure throughout the wiki, we can streamline the process of creating new pages! Remember Bootstrap Principle #8- if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Extended Definition: the type, class, and features that distinguish the equipment Mechanical Functions: a detailed explanation of how the components work as a system Specifications: a list of the color, material, weight, dimensions, and other relevant specs Extended Definition: the type, class, and stages that distinguish the process Sequencing: a detailed explanation of how the process completes and functions as a system Outcomes: an overview of the output generated by the process sequence That’s all! Now you’re ready to get started!
