Let’s Start with WHY

Simon Sinek likes to say, “If you want to build something of real value, start with WHY”—and for me, the “why” is simple: When people feel seen, heard, and valued, they bring their best selves to the table and the quickly follow. Diversity of thought isn’t just a buzzword—it fuels innovation, strengthens team morale, and helps organizations build products and services that resonate with a broader audience. It creates an environment where different perspectives challenge assumptions and spark new ideas, which not only makes teams more effective but also makes the work more rewarding for everyone involved. It’s one of the few business strategies that benefits both the bottom line and the people driving it.
That said, diversity of thought doesn’t exist in (or spring from) a vacuum—without the individual commitment to speak up and make space, or the organizational will to build inclusive systems and policies, true diversity of thought can’t take root or thrive. It requires intention, accountability, and a shared understanding that our differences are not obstacles to overcome, but assets to cultivate. Whether through mentorship programs, equitable hiring practices, or simply creating safe environments for honest dialogue, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEI&B) is the foundation that allows diverse perspectives to flourish and shape meaningful, lasting impact.
