Welcome Back Card

To celebrate Lauren’s return to school on Monday, let’s make her some electric cards!

Three Parts

Front of Card

Make a design on Canva or by hand for a “Welcome Back” card or a “Happy Pi Day” card. The design will have a small hole in it for an LED to shine through.

Inside Card (left)

You explain how the circuit lights up the LED.

Inside Card (right)

You build a copper paper circuit that lights up an LED when the card is pressed.

Front of the Card

Design a postcard on Canva that you can print in the library.
The design can be one of two ideas:
A “Welcome Back” card
A “Happy Pi Day” card
When you are designing the card, imagine you have an LED bulb as part of the design. For example, in the word “Pi”, replace the dot above the “i” with the LED.
You will cut a small hole in the design to let the LED shine through.

The paper circuit consists of three parts:
A battery
An LED
Strips of copper tape
You also need clear tape to attach everything.

PLAN

Figure out where you want to put your LED.
With a pencil, sketch the circuit from the battery to the LED. Place the battery in the bottom right of the card.

BUILD

Build the circuit with the copper tape.
Make sure the battery and the LED are firmly touching the copper tape.
