1 - Beginning (Needs Work)
Scientific Content & Accuracy
Facts are 100% accurate and explained in your own words. Includes specific details and data to support the topic.
Most facts are accurate. The explanation is clear but stays at a “surface level” without much detail.
Contains scientific errors. Information is either too brief or copied directly from a source.
Structure & Organization
Has a clear Introduction (with a hook), Body Paragraphs (focused on one sub-topic each), and a Conclusion.
Has the required sections, but the transition between ideas is a bit jumpy or disorganized.
Missing key sections (like an Intro or Conclusion). Paragraphs are messy or confusing.
Tone & Mechanics
Written in a formal, “expert” tone. No spelling or grammar errors. Science terms are used correctly.
Mostly formal tone. Has 1–2 minor spelling or grammar errors that don’t change the meaning.
Informal tone (uses “I” or “me” too much). Many spelling errors make it difficult to read.

The “Expert Tone” Checklist
Avoid using “I,” “me,” or “my.”
Instead of: “I think black holes are cool because they pull things in.”
Try: “Black holes are fascinating celestial objects known for their immense gravitational pull.”
Pro-Tip: The “Paragraph Sandwich”
Most paragraphs should follow this structure:
Top Bun: Topic Sentence (What is this paragraph about?).
The Meat: The Facts (Evidence from your research).
The Condiments: The Explanation (Why is this fact important?).
Bottom Bun: Transition Sentence (Lead into the next paragraph).
