Rehearsal #1 - Outline

Present:
Andrei Eddie Bram Lewis Sebastian Çağlar Milagros Samuel Magda Emma Sandra
Focus:
Group mind / team bonding / feeling comfortable
Hosting skills
Panel-to-scene
Premise-based scenes.

we’ll split the rehearsals to try all the different typologies with someone hosting
!!! Make sure everyone has the chance to play + stay on the positive side
feedback: self-reflection (what felt good/not) + ask the audience what they enjoyed
ensemble is understanding what’s in others minds

Intro:
Sitting round: explaining the concept of the game, explain on what we are gonna do in the next rehearsals (today and next time is playing games, 25th is only for who will be in the may show to settle it down)
Talk about the three types of performers: host / panelists / improvisers, and what kind of play they all
Names, pronouns, boundaries, reasons — take time to do that, emotional / physical / subject matters. Remind that it’s not a ‘one time for all things’. Before going around the circle, give them time to think about it.
Name game → Volleyball, monster cartoon
Energiser: Zombie Penguin (ask Bram) → focus on connection & team spirit

Practice group mind :
one word a time story (in a circle)
(monologue hot seat → practice give and take focus (general note) / interrupt more - interrupt less)

Practice reacting to a premise
Get some suggestions!
In a circle. Chose a sentence. Each person gives the next one a ‘direction’ (could be : an emotion, a tone, a pace, a genre, anything...).

Practice panel to scene:
We need : 1 host, 3 panelists, 4 improvisers
‘worst thing to say at a first date’ > Panelists give answers
worst excuse for not going on another date
worst experience you’ve ever had at work
when there’s a good one we play scenes

Practice premised based scenes:
We need: 1 host, 3-4 players
Practice for the host: getting the juice out of an audience interaction. Find the funny thing and turn it into a good premise.
Practice for the players: being inspired by a premise.
Try different sort of questions. Try to make the ‘premise’ more or less constraining.
- What’s the funniest thing that happened this week?
- What’s the name of a (x) movie that was never released?

SKILLS FOR THE PANELISTS:

SKILLS FOR IMPROVISERS:
Turn a suggestion into a scene. Give it context. Find a situation where the suggestion can happen/evolve
SKILLS FOR THE HOST:
Getting suggestions / selecting good suggestions / Editing and give input if the scene requires it.

Closing:
What role suits you better? Reflect on that for next week
Clarifying show casting: mix of availabilities / fairness (not everyone in every show) / who we feel complement each other
we can brainstorm a bit together, we will figure out what we are doing together
Notes:
hill structure : panelists can become hosts and vice versa with points structure
Participating in Improv sports
Have different teams to participate in different things
Get a bell

Long beginning, we started scenes at 20.22 1) Host: Bram
Panelists: Sam, cag, sandra / max
Improvs: andrei, Milagros, seba, Alice
2) host: ema
Panelist: edi, Bram, Magda
Improvs: caglar, Sandra, Sam, Louis

Comment → the panelists are alone, it’s nicer when people join in and make the scene better
the panelists stuff is separated from the scenes, how do we give points based on the scenes?
The goal is that the panelist wins, so the improvisers are there to serve the panelists
Competition is not really something people like here.

→ needs to be punchier
