A denizen refers to the inhabitants or residents of a particular place or bioregion. The term emphasises a sense of belonging, intimacy and permanence in a specific location. We use the term because it carries connotations of familiarity, regularity, and a certain level of integration or engagement with the environment the individuals inhabit.
