We are at the end of our series Ever After! Boaz redeemed Naomi's land and married Ruth. Naomi, who had started out this story with so much sadness, was now filled with so much joy. Everyone in town accepted Ruth to be part of the community and prayed that God would bless them. God indeed blessed Ruth and Boaz and they lived happily ever after!
Stand in a large circle and call out a prompt. The students that match the prompt will take a step or a hop into the middle of the circle. You can also play this game virtually by having students stand up or raise their hand. You can use prompts such as, step in the middle if you:
have brown hair
have a pet
like the color blue
are wearing tennis shoes
have a brother
Once the students are in the middle, you can ask them further questions, such as what kind of pet they have, what their brother’s name is, etc.

WELCOME: Hey friends! My name is ________ and I’ll be your host today. This month, we have been talking all about the story of Ruth. Almost all fairy tale stories end with a "happily ever after" for the main characters. We have learned through this story that God gives us each other and wants us to help take care of each other. What are some ways you take care of others?
(Allow responses.)
TRANSITION TO WORSHIP: Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes to pray as we prepare to worship. (Pray over the kids. Then start the worship songs.)
INTRODUCE THE STORY: Today we are wrapping up the story of Ruth. Last week, we learned that God gives us hope.
(reveal brown paper bag with candy in it to kids but do not show them what is in it) Now, I have this bag here. What do you guys hope is in this bag? Im not going to show you what it is until after the Bible story.
In the last chapter, we learned that Ruth asked Boaz to help her family by becoming the guardian-redeemer (or kinsman-redeemer).
ASK: Who remembers what a kingsman-redeemer means?
You'll remember that the redeemer's job was to become the person who would take over Naomi's family line and marry Ruth.
Boaz very much wanted to marry Ruth and become the redeemer. But there was a little problem – there was someone else who was actually next in line to be the redeemer before Boaz.
But Boaz had a plan.
ASK: Now, do you think this story will have a happy or sad ending?
Lets find out! Boaz spoke to the relative about what the arrangement would look like with marrying Ruth. The relative did not realize he would have to marry Ruth in order to inherit the land, and he already had a family of his own. The relative decided to allow Boaz to keep the land and marry Ruth.
ASK: Do you remember how Naomi felt in the beginning of the story? How do you think she is feeling now?
Naomi, who had started out this story with so much sadness, was now filled with so much joy.
Everyone in town accepted Ruth to be part of the community and prayed that God would bless them. God indeed blessed Ruth and Boaz and they lived happily ever after!
ASK: Do you all remember that God has special plans for each one of us?
God allowed Boaz and Ruth to meet. God specifically made each one of these things happen in Naomi, Ruth and Boaz’s life so that God could be glorified in their journey.
Ruth and Boaz had a son named Obed. Obed, later on, had a son of his own named Jesse. When Jesse was older, he had many sons, and among them, a little shepherd boy named David. David, as you might know, became king of all Israel.
ASK: Did you see how God works in this story? He had a plan all along and took care of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz just as He promises to take care of us!
Wasn't that an amazing story? Now that we are down with our lesson let’s see what is in the brown paper bag. After waiting all morning I am sure that you are hoping that that something good is in here! Let’s always remember that we can put our Hope in God and that He will never let us down.
