In week 4 of Up in the Air, We are continuing to find out some cool things God did through the prophet Elisha. In today’s story, we find out how Elisha and company were able to survive during a famine.

Big Idea: I can ask God for what I need.

Icebreaker

Up, up, and away we go into another week of Up in the Air! Let’s kick things off with a game that will require us to keep balloons – you guessed it – up in the air!

INSTRUCTIONS: Split the kids into two teams. Place three balloons in the middle of the floor. When you say “Go,” kids will stay on their knees and use only their hands to pass the balloons about and try to score. The game doesn’t stop, so have a volunteer at each goal keep track of goals scored. After about five minutes, end the game, and tally points. The team with the most goals wins!

Large Group

10 minutes into service, gather the kids in your group and head to the Auditorium for Large Group. There will be a designated place for your age group to sit, so make sure you follow the signs! This is where kids will have a worship experience and hear the Bible story. Once Large Group ends, your group will be dismissed to head back to your room.

Connect

Gather into your small groups and play a fun game of thumbs up, thumbs down to see how your kid’s week is going. You can start by asking them what their favorite part of their week was, what was their most memorable activity from the week, what they look forward to etc.

Unpack

What did God do to help Elisha when the stew in the pot was spoiled?

What did God do to help Elisha feed the crowd of a hundred?

How do you know Elisha asked God for help? Read Luke 11:9.

What does the Bible say you can expect when you pray and ask for what you need?

What is one thing you really want right now?

What is one thing you really need right now?

What are some needs that you can ask God for on behalf of others?

ACTIVITY #8: VERSE KNOCKOUT

INSTRUCTIONS: Write one word from the memory verse onto upside down cups. Line up the cups in order on a table (you might want to spread them out over two tables if possible). Have kids read and recite the verse together once. Then have kids take turns tossing bean bags to knock a cup off the table. Each time one cup gets knocked over, put it away and have them recite the whole verse and supply the missing word. Keep going until all the cups have been knocked over and the group is able to recite the whole verse without any cups present.

ACTIVITY | Balloons on Baskets

So we just played a game of balloon basketball together. Can you think of anything else that has both a basket and a balloon? Yes! A hot air balloon! For this next activity, you’re going to work with your team to “make” hot air balloons.

INSTRUCTIONS: Line up different colored plastic cups on opposite sides of the room, then divide kids into two teams. Put inflated balloons in the center of the room making sure there are more balloons than cups. Give kids one minute to grab a balloon from the middle and place it on one of their team’s “ baskets” (cups). When time’s up, whichever team has the most amount of completed hot air balloons still standing wins.
