July 10 (Lower Elementary)

Today’s story is about having faith in what God can do . . . and God can do a LOT! When we need help and don’t know what to do, we can have faith that God will take care of us, too!
Big Idea: I can have faith in God.
Bible Story: Elisha and the Widow’s Oil: II Kings 4:1-7; Colossians 1:3-14
Memory Verse: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 (NIV)

Icebreaker

Crocodile Race

What You Will Need: A beginning line and a finish line.
Set Up: Choose teams of 4 to 10 players and form the teams in straight lines.
How to Play: When the teams and lines are formed, the first person on each team will be the leader. Everyone behind the leader will place their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them. Each team should crouch down to look like a crocodile. All the crocodiles will race to the finish line, or from the start to the finish and back to start again. The first team to finish wins.

Large Group

10 minutes into service, gather the kids in your group and head to the Auditorium for Large Group. There will be a designated place for your age group to sit, so make sure you follow the signs! This is where kids will have a worship experience and hear the Bible story. Once Large Group ends, your group will be dismissed to head back to your room.

Connect

Gather into your small groups and play a fun game of thumbs up, thumbs down to see how your kid’s week is going. You can start by asking them what their favorite part of their week was, what was their most memorable activity from the week, what they look forward to etc.

Unpack

Why was the woman in the Bible story sad?
What did Elisha tell her to do?
How did God provide for her? Read Colossians 1:13-14.
What has God done for us that shows we can have faith?
What does having faith mean to you?
Think of someone else in the Bible who had faith in God. How did their faith help them?
What is one thing you can do this week to show you have faith in God?

ACTIVITY #2: BIBLE BERSERKO
Look up the memory verse and read it out loud.
Choose a kid to roll a dice, then have the kids recite the verse together in the style that corresponds with the list below.
3. When finished, hand the dice to another kid and repeat.
#1: In a robot voice.
#2: While hopping on one foot.
#3: While making a silly face.
#4: Like you’re sitting in a bathtub filled with ice water.
#5: Like you’re being chased by a dragon.
#6: Make up your own.

ACTIVITY | Speed Planes
INSTRUCTIONS: In this activity, kids will have an airplane-making and throwing competition Make a few in advance as examples. When the timer starts, everyone has two minutes to make the very best paper airplane they can using the materials provided. After the timer stops, have everyone stand at the starting line with their planes and throw them to see which airplane sails the farthest distance.
Lower Elementary Hack:
Instead of a competition, allow kids to decorate their own paper airplanes.
