Introducing the Scalable Approach to Vulnerability via Interoperability (SAVVI) Tech Working Group

by Georgina Maratheftis, Published 8 July 2021
Help define and improve the data standards that improve outcomes for places and it’s citizens.
Last December techUK was pleased to host the Scalable Approach to Vulnerability via Interoperability (SAVVI) team for a ‘Help shape the tech response to how local government supports the vulnerable,’ workshop. SAVVI is one of the Government funded projects in the MHCLG’s Local Digital Unit’s continuous funding programme. The project is about proposing standards to help identify people and households who are vulnerable, and then coordinating multi-agency packages of assistance. The workshop, in December, provided suppliers with the opportunity to engage with the SAVVI team and provide feedback on the standards.
Key to the success of the data standards and it’s adoption is effective supplier engagement. That is why techUK is pleased to announce it will be providing the secretariat to the SAVVI Tech Working Group. The working group will provide a mutual forum for SAVVI and the Tech industry to engage and collaborate on SAVVI data standards.
Purpose
Suppliers are a key partner in the local digital ecosystem, and we are convening this working group to ensure that suppliers have early sight of the standard to ensure that it is fit for purpose from a supplier perspective.
The working group is not just about regular updates from the SAVVI team, it is encouraging active two-way participation. We want to create an environment where innovation can flourish and the needs of the vulnerable are met. Suppliers will be a critical friend of the SAVVI project in all tech related matters. As well as exploring how SAVVI standards interoperate with other standards, we want to hear how suppliers propose to use the standards and any existing best practices they can share on supporting the vulnerable and the impact they see the standards will have. As tech leaders members of the working group will also be expected to horizon scanning role for the standards outputs from the SAVVI project
Governance
The working group is open to techUK members and suppliers with experience of working directly with local authorities. The working group will meet every six weeks.
techUK will be invited to sit on the iStandUK Executive Board, to provide effective governance for the SAVVI Tech group’s strand of activities. The iStandUK Executive Board has overall governance for the entire SAVVI programme of work.
