Preamble
Hi __(candidate name)__, How’s it going? ... Awesome, I'm good. (Turn on camera.) I’m ____________, with Everlight Solar. My camera won’t be on today. I want to give us as much internet bandwith as we can, but I did want to pop on and say hi real quick. (Wave then shut off camera.) Are we connected ok? (make sure their video is on and you can hear and see them) ... So a little about this really-fast video-screening we're doing for you today - I’m going to ask you some questions here that we will record to be reviewed by our recruitment team and managers. If you’re selected for a full interview... (IF LOCAL) ...we'll give you a call to schedule you for a face-to-face interview at our warehouse with one of our Team Leads. (IF OUT OF STATE) ...we’ll give you a link to schedule. We're growing too fast and operate in too many states to do interviews in person. My job is just to facilitate this video recording. You should know that I don’t know anything about this position and I can’t answer any questions you have about it, and I won’t be part of the hiring committee. Make sense? ... Perfect.
Housekeeping Questions
Nice, A couple of quick housekeeping questions to start off with: You’re applying for the position of Electrician in the (Minneapolis, Omaha, Milwaukee or Madison) _________________ area is that right? We are hiring electricians right now all over the Midwest, are you open to being considered for other locations? Milwaukee... And, obviously, you read the job listing so you saw that there's onsite training in Madison, we offer sponsored housing during that training. Are you planning on commuting each day or are you going to take advantage of the company housing? Minneapolis, Omaha, Madison... Our warehouse is in ________(Savage, La Vista, Verona) and our installs are generally on homes within an hour of that location... with that in mind, is it easy for you to be on site, on location every day? Just for clarification purposes, the expectation for this role, is that it is an in-the field position, doing electrical work for solar. You’re aware of that right? Do you have a current (MN, NE, or WI) Journeyman/Master Electrician License? - No? What would the process be to get that license? Ok, now we’re ready for our main questions. Are you ready for your first main question?... You can take as long as you need to think before you answer so don’t be shy, ok? IF THEY SAY THEY’VE WORKED FOR ANOTHER SOLAR COMPANY... Awesome! Which company/ companies have you worked for? We have a lot of friends in the industry - maybe we know some of the same people! That’s so cool! What were you doing there? Are you still working there?........ That’s great. How long - were you there for/ have you been there?
Main Electrician Questions
Onto our main questions, perhaps the best place to start is... 1. What has been the driving force behind your interest and love of the electrical trade? 2. Tell me about your work experience... What types of electrical systems have you worked on in the past? (Commercial, residential, high voltage, low voltage, how many years?) 3. This is a fast-paced industry and a fast-paced job, how do you feel like you would perform working in an environment like that? 4. We have a real passion for training the next generation of electricians, can you explain your philosophy to me on training apprentices? 5. What is the most challenging situation you have faced in your career? How did you handle it? 6. Last question - How would your past boss or coworkers describe you?
Wrap Up
Perfect _____(their name)_____. Thanks so much for your time and your honest answers. ... Before we end, I’ll tell you a little bit about us. ... First, Everlight Solar has been recognized as the premium solar installer in every market we’re in. We are known to provide the best installation, the best product, and by far the best customer experience. Because of that, we have to hire people who are looking to do their best work yet, and why we care far more for values and attitude than just skills, which we can always teach, right? ... I don’t know if you’ve seen this, Forbes magazine declared the solar industry as the fastest growing industry in the world right now, and Everlight Solar is the fastest growing in the entire US. It's obvious that at Everlight, everyone is a go-getter. Do you think you're driven enough to really stand out, and make a critical contribution to a kick-ass team? ... Nice, if you are lucky enough to get selected for a full interview, in the next day or two, you’ll hear from us about scheduling that next interview. These spots are filling up fast, so don’t miss it. ... Before we hang up, anything you want to say to our recruitment team quick? ... Awesome. Have a nice day!
***FAQ***
FAQ FOR ANYTHING NOT LISTED HERE: Great question. We’ll have someone go over all of that with you if you move onto the next stage. “When can I hear back from you?” I’m unable to provide a definitive timeline, however everyone on the recruitment team is working very quickly right now! Is there a specific timeline you need to hear back by? “Does it matter if I’m a Mac user versus a Windows user?” Great question! It depends on the position. For more clarity, save that question for the next interview! Would you be willing to become a Mac expert if the position required it? "So you’re unable to answer my questions? What’s the purpose of this screening?” Awesome, great question! We have so many amazing applicants, this is an opportunity for the recruitment team to get to know you a little more, and for you to answer a couple of quick questions. If you are selected for the next interview, you can have any and all of your questions answered. Does that make sense? “Do you work for Everlight?” Yes, I’m an administrator with Everlight Solar! “Can we do it over the phone or do you guys use Duo or Google Hangout?” We’ll be conducting this interview over Zoom today! “Are you reading from a script?” Yes! We ask all candidates similar questions to ensure equal opportunity and to decrease bias. “I’m not sure how to answer, can I skip that question?” These questions are vague on purpose... We're interested in your thoughts! “What if I cannot be on site/on location?” No worries. We are also hiring for a lot of remote roles right now, so if you’d like you can check out our job listings at everlightsolar.com/jobs, but your screening today will put you in consideration for all of our roles here at Everlight. “Feedback... how did I do, how do I compare to others, do you have any concerns about my resume??... etc.” I'm not part of the hiring committee but if they have any further questions about your info they'll be sure to reach out to you! (...assuming they ask this before the 'do you have anything else you'd like to relay to our recruitment team right now'... this would be a great segue)
End Quickly
Awesome, I got call coming in now I need to jump on now -thank you so much for your time and attention, I'll make sure the rest of the recruitment team sees this and if they decide to go forward with you, someone will be in touch, sorry i need to run, you have a great day, ok? thanks again, awesome, bye
