Live Session 1

Landing. It is your first day of work with UNICEF or UNHCR as an SBP deployee. You have spent the morning meeting with HR and completing all of the administrative requirements. You spent time with your supervisor and some of your colleagues at lunch. Prior to your deployment, you got up to speed in terms of the child protection systems in your deployment country. You are now ready for your first field visit.

Learning Objectives

Review the universal and describe how 1-2 of these factors present in their target locations.
Assess their knowledge about the policies, legislations and formal institutions of their target locations.
Locate the national CP strategy (or equivalent) for their target locations.
Analyse the roles of UNICEF and UNHCR in strengthening and building national CP systems within specific humanitarian settings.
Identify the factors, systems and strategies that SBP deployees need to be familiar with to support UNICEF and UNHCR’s mandates, priorities and programming for CPHA.
Plan and implement a self-care plan as part of a capacity building plan (pending).

Session Notes

At the start of the session, participants considered the impact of stress and the role of self-care during deployment. It is hoped that self-care will be included and assessed (in collaboration with an accountability partner) in individual capacity building plans. Prior to the session, participants received a on wellbeing, reducing stress and building our inner resilience.

Through the self-study activities and live session, participants practiced mapping the factors, systems and strategies that we need to be familiar with to support CPHA programming within the UNICEF and UNCHR systems.
A and the was shared with participants during the live session to consider the specific roles that UNICEF and UNHCR play in strengthening and building national CP systems within humanitarian settings. The results were added to this . The model was highlighted as an example of a One Stop Centre.
In small groups and in plenary, participants discussed how to strengthen the components of the child protection system. Groups provided inputs in this .
