Below are some upcoming videos with MRU that don't have hard deadlines as scripts are still in the works but figured we could start to discuss so we can begin to ideally schedule.
Note all of these are all narration videos no onscreen host.
Unntended Consequences - TRT: 4 minutes - This is a high tier video along the lines of the Marginal Thinking and Housinh videos last year.
Then there are these 4 fiscal policy videos which are in the PE series and are kind of infographic explainers with some graphs so somewhat related to the Fed IORB video and lower second tier.
Discretionary Spending vs. Mandatory Spending - TRT 3 minutes
Progressive vs. regressive Taxation - TRT 3 minutes
Marginal vs. Average Tax Rate - TRT 3 minutes
Deficit vs. Debt - TRT 3 minutes
Then these two second tier videos in PE and would relate to the Externalities videos.
Pigouvian Taxes - TRT 3 minutes
Pigouvian Subsidies - TRT 3 minutes
S/D Vernon Smith - One more high tier video which will either be all VO or possibly involved some filmed interviews if we can get to a Nobel winning economist that used to teach where Alex and Tyler are.
Mail to Chris:
I've been thinking about how we can approach these videos with a more defined handle on budget. Many of the MRU videos are really difficult to nail down as far as the budget goes because they evolve so much over time for whatever reason, the end result being that I often cannot give you a good answer when you ask how much more to expect after the video has started. I think one thing we can do to help is to spend more time on the A/V script/storyboard and on the style frames and literally style frame every shot where it makes sense to do so. This would raise the pre-production costs (or what I call pre-production) but on the flip side it will make it easier to animate because we've worked a lot out in advance.
Some scripts (such as AI_01) will always be tough to tie down as they really do need to evolve as we progress but I think the more standard economics videos would benefit from this.
Something else I think (depending on how the deadlines work out for these projects) is that we may need to bring Claudio back on board and just have a tigher rein. I think in Claudio’s case many of the issues would have been avoided if there had been detailed frames for each shot, frames that you can I would have nutted out before getting him to animate. The same would be true for Chad - it would make it much more foolproof.
